Where does the name Teddy Bear come from?

Teddy bears were born in the late 1800’s.

The first toy bears originally came from Russia, but the word ‘Teddy’ came from the American President Theodore Roosevelt.

The story goes that after several days hunting bears in the state of Mississippi, the president could not find a bear to shoot, so the guides accompanying him, tied a bear cub to a tree for him to shoot. The president refused, saying it was unsporting and, therefore, the baby bears became known as ‘Teddies’. Teddy being the short name for Theodore.
